A curriculum overview

The Learning Academy Partnership is committed to providing children with a curriculum that is innovative and motivating; a curriculum that is real and relevant to the child’s life, ensuring that we make the best use of the incredible natural environment around us. Our schools are based in fantastic locations: West Alvington, where the children benefit from frequent visits to West Alvington woods; Thurlestone is located just minutes from the beach, so children are often walking down to the sea shore and Charleton is located just minutes from Charleton Marshes, a beautiful resource for children to enjoy.

Our curriculum, which conforms to the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum 2014, is organised thematically as children enjoy being able to link their learning to a motivating and exciting topic. Topic headings are very general, allowing teachers to use their creativity and imagination to develop the best learning environment for their children. The essentials skills needed to become an effective learner as taught centrally throughout our curriculum, enabling all children to become confident, independent learners with the motivation and resilience to achieve their potential. These skills include problem solving, communication, perseverance and resilience.

The 2-year cycle of Curriculum Maps can be found below. These need to be read in conjunction with the National Curriculum requirements which is divided into year groups. If you have any questions regarding the curriculum, please speak to your class teacher – they will be happy to help.
